Dark Souls III review

I’ve never played a Dark Souls game. Two reasons really, one is that I’ve never really thought it would appeal to me, the other that everyone who plays it says that it’s bloody hard. It’s like eating spicy food. I like a bit of spice, but when it becomes painful, what’s the point? So Dark Souls III promises to deliver more of the same, only better, in the realm of Lothric with a dark, broody world and lots of enemies and huge bosses that will kill you very quickly. The reward is, of course, eventually killing that boss after he’s...

Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch

Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch review

Before now, Ni no Kuni only existed as an RPG on the DS in Japan so unless you were well versed in Japanese it would have been pretty tricky to get into the story. Now, thanks to Namco Bandai, the game’s a PS3 exclusive here in the West so now we can all play along and know what it’s all about. And as a bonus if you still want to play it with Japanese voices and English subs – you can! Hooray, everyone’s a winner! The game’s a heartfelt tale from animé experts Studio Ghibli and Professor Layton developers Level-5...

Dishonored

Dishonored review

Recently I’ve been a busy boy and haven’t really managed to see much of Dishonored before jumping into it for a review. And I have to say the experience is a pleasant one bringing back memories, for me at least, of TimeSplitters and BioShock in terms of the look and feel and Thief in terms of the gameplay. You play as Corvo, a bodyguard who’s promptly set up for the murder of your master and the kidnap of her daughter. After a brief spell in jail you soon escape thanks to some outside help and seek to clear your name,...

Borderlands 2

Borderlands 2 review

The original Borderlands passed me by so I’m coming at this review with a totally fresh perspective on the game. As you’re probably aware it’s something between an FPS and an RPG and its major hook is 4 player co-op. think of it a bit like a cel-shaded Fallout 3 with a silly sense of humour and you’ll be somewhere there. I’m told this sequel picks up pretty much where the last game ended. You play as one of four new Vault Hunters who have entered the Borderlands of Pandora and straight away you’re all blown to smithereens by Handsome Jack,...

Rift

Rift subscriptions price drop

Following the trend of a lot of recent MMORPGs, Rift is the next MMO to lower its subscription prices in order to keep current gamers in the fantasy RPG world and also attract new players to its servers. Trion Worlds has dropped the annual and monthly subscriptions by about 15%, however the 3 month subscription fee remains the same. Buy Rift now New: Buy Rift from Amazon.com Related: RPG, fantasy

Runescape

Runefest 2011

Last weekend saw the coming together of RPG role-players everywhere in London for Runefest 2011. RuneScape players got to meet with fellow gamers, take part in activities and meet the developers for Q&A sessions. They also had a rather good Halloween party where I got to meet death. I’m still here so I guess he wasn’t real. Buy Runescape now New: Buy Runescape from Amazon.com Related: RPG, Rune Factory review
